WALL Objection Letter (Feb 2025)

On behalf of Walberswick residents, Walberswick Against LionLink (WALL) has shared the following letter opposing Site G2 as the landfall site for the LionLink Multi-Purpose Interconnector (MPI).

Summary reasons for opposition:

  • Environmental Impact: WALL's surveys show Site G2 harbors numerous protected species, with the proposed cable route overlapping designated European sites and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Sixty-nine bird species, including key breeders, use the area for nesting. Nine bat species, including the endangered barbastelle, have been recorded, with two bat roosts nearby. Key reptile sites and protected species were identified in reptile surveys.

  • Recreational Impact: Footfall surveys demonstrate heavy use of footpaths around Manor Field. Selecting Site G2 could negatively impact this network and local businesses.

  • Disruption: Site G2 is located in Walberswick, near housing and footpaths. Construction would inconvenience residents and create safety hazards.

The letter expands on these key points in detail and was shared with NGLL in early February.
