Art for WALL Fundraising Project

Local artists have created and donated a piece of art connected with Walberswick, a special place to them all, to help protect this precious habitat.

Bids for a silent auction can be placed between 22 December and midday on 3 January 2024 and the highest bidder for each piece will be able to take home a unique and specially created work of art.

Do come to our display of all of the artwork in the bar at The Anchor:

In addition we will be selling a Limited Edition set of 11 postcards for £10, details to be posted on Ciao and WALL whatsapp groups shortly

Jackie aims to communicate the essence of an atmosphere, which evokes stillness and silence

Walberswick Slipway by Kate Felton Hall (app 200mm x 150mm)

Kate is a local artist who creates large scale landscapes, still life and portraits in oil.   Her work is exhibited in Southwold Gallery, ArtDog London and the Affordable Art Fairs

Ground Down Groynes (white porcelain on black porcelain) by Martha Freud (140mm x 100mm)

Known for the slogans that she embeds into her creations, Martha’s delicately constructed ceramics balance a uniquely fragile beauty with her own touch of playful irreverence.

Flow (wood carving) by Karen le Roux (app l: 520mm x w: 260mm x h: 190mm)

Karen has lived in Walberswick for almost 20 years and says the slow and meditative act of wood carving reveals hidden mystery and beauty and the transformation is always a surprise

So Much Beauty We Have to Look After by Charlie Mackesy (app 300mm x 310mm)

Charlie is an artist, illustrator & author and this drawing was created one December morning on a brown paper bread bag at The Black Dog Deli in Walberswick, the birthplace of his internationally best selling book The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse and where much of his Oscar and BAFTA award winning animated short film was directed during lockdown.   

This drawing is a unique extension of the original conversation from his book.

Original Works by Charlie are currently on auction at Bonhams.

The Beach by Sarah Muir Poland (app 235mm x 165mm)

Sarah is an intuitive colourist and has exhibited widely in London and Suffolk, most recently a solo show at Noho Studios, London in November.  

Sea Holly, Walberswick Beach by David Riches (app 215mm x 140mm)

David is a full time artist painting people, landscapes and still life.   He is passionate about trying to capture something of the movement and constant changes inherent in painting en plein air. 

From Walberswick to Southwold by Helen Riches (app 210mm x 145mm)

If Helen isn’t oil painting in her Walberswick studio you may find her perched out of doors clutching sketchbook, inks and gesso. Her next exhibition is in Ballroom Arts in Aldeburgh May 15th - 21st. Follow her on instagram to see her colourful works in progress.
